Drew feels blessed with 23 offers
Ray Drew has committed to Mississippi State.
At least that was the rumor rumbling through the halls at Thomas County Central (Ga.) High School a few weeks ago. While the rumor was news to Drew himself it doesn't mean he has ruled out the Bulldogs or any of his other 22 offers.
"I'm looking into Mississippi State," Drew said. "They are in the SEC and I'm looking into a number of SEC teams. I got a chance to talk to Coach (Scott) Sallach a while back and I actually talked with the head coach but he was about to go into a meeting so I didn't get to talk to him long. It was actually out on the internet even before they had offered me that I had already committed to Mississippi State. I thought that was funny. There were people asking me about it at school and all I could say was I didn't know anything about it."
The six-foot-5, 243-pound defensive end's offer list reads like a who's who of college football. Drew holds scholarships from Alabama, Auburn, California, Clemson, Duke, East Carolina, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, LSU, Mississippi State, North Carolina, N.C. State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Purdue, South Carolina, USF, Tennessee and USC.
"I really don't know how to explain how much of a blessing having 23 offers is right now," Drew said. "I haven't even started the summer before my senior year yet. I'm just grateful to the coaching staffs at these different schools that think that highly of me. I know that it's not me doing it. I have to give all the glory to God because that's who it all comes from."
The recruiting process began early for Drew picking up verbal offers his sophomore year from Georgia and Alabama.
