New Jersey DE has ECU offer
Mike Farrell
Rivals.com Football Recruiting Wayne (N.J.) Wayne Hills defensive end Peter Daibes received an offer from East Carolina at the beginning of the summer and several other smaller programs from the FCS ranks have extended verbal offers to date.
Daibes has done nothing this year that would make the East Carolina coaches question the wisdom of offering him a scholarship.
The 6-foot-4, 212-pound prospect from New Jersey lines up at both defensive end and tight end for his high school team. Through five games this year he has recorded 32 tackles and eight sacks as one of the state's best pass rushers, though he hasn't received the attention some other prospects have picked up.
Over the weekend Daibes said Holy Cross should be sending him a written offer this week. He also has verbal offers from Albany, Youngstown State and Towson.
Rutgers, Boston College, Temple and Delaware are some of the other schools paying attention to how he is developing. Daibes has been to some home games at Rutgers this year but he hasn't visited any other schools yet.
What about East Carolina? Where do the Pirates stand being the only FBS school that has offered?
"I got that offer at the beginning of the summer and I've kept in touch with the coaches a little bit," he explained. "I still have an open mind. I'm trying to figure out which schools will give me the best opportunity to play as well as which have the best academics.
"I'm just going to see what (offers) I can get and then see what happens. I should make a decision by December or January. I don't have a favorite right now."
Though most schools are recruiting Daibes as a defensive end he said he has gotten some looks for his play as a tight end as well.
