Nicholas impresses at Elite 11
Abilene (Texas) Cooper quarterback Clayton Nicholas was in Fort Worth over the weekend to attend the Nike Elite 11 Quarterback Camp and the 2012 Tech commit came away impressive to those in attendance,
"It was a lot of fun. I know some of the scouts were complimentary of what I was able to do and I got a chance to meet a lot of guys from different parts of this region," Nicholas said. "It was fun because I knew that I was not only representing Abilene, but now I'm representing Texas Tech."
"We worked a lot on drop-backs, and also on getting the ball out of my hand. The release point was something we focused on. There were a lot of really good receivers there too, so you wanted to get it to them on time."
Nicholas indicated that things were pretty quiet on the recruiting front since giving his commitment to the Red Raiders just a few weeks ago.
"It's been pretty quiet right now," he said. "It's probably going to get busy again after spring ball and when we get to the season. I've just been doing my own thing for now, though. It's been nice."
However, the reaction to the 6-foot-3, 205-pounder's commitment has been anything but quiet.
"It's crazy. Everybody is passing along their congratulations and stuff. I've gotten a lot of support from my family and from my community. There are a lot of Tech fans down here and they're all excited that I'm headed to Lubbock."
Nicholas said that he's not planning on taking any other trips to camps or making any unofficial visits. He's continued to build a relationship with the coaches at Texas Tech, most notably Neal Brown and Sonny Cumbie.
"I talk with Coach Brown and Coach Cumbie all the time. I probably talk to them almost everyday, one way or another," he said. "I'm just ready to get up there and start soaking in all of the information that they have to offer. I'm looking forward to playing football for them for sure."
Nicholas committed to Texas Tech towards the end of March.
