Any time a team can go on the road in the Pac 10 and come out with a victory it is a great thing.
For the first time since playing Arizona State early in the season, the offense generated over 400 net yards offense. Further, it was quite an accomplishment given that 213 of the Beavers 431 yards came through the air during a driving rain storm in Pullman.
In fact, the Beavers may have put together their most balanced attack of the year adding 218 yards rushing to their passing statistics, where they took advantage of the entire depth chart after Yvenson Bernard left the game with an injury once the game was in hand.
Quarterback Lyle Moevao looked good in his second career start and took full advantage of his young wide receivers Darrell Catchings and James Rodgers, who were the two leading receivers for the team. Catchings led the team with 70 yards receiving, while Rodgers led the team with 99 yards of total offense. Once again, number 8 was electric, displaying soft hands and great down field vision. His blocking isn't bad either.
The praise for the offensive efficiency however should be heaped upon the stellar play of Coach Cavanaugh's linemen as they had one of their best performances of the season. Moevao had what seemed like all day and the line created holes for the running game.
Credit is also due once again to the coaching staff for installing an excellent game plan. The coaches have begun really taking advantage of the two main offensive threats in Bernard and Rodgers and have truly opened up the game for both of them to succeed. The play calling, which seemed vanilla and predictable early in the season, has become creative and plays to the strengths of the offense.
Is the offense still a work in progress? Yes. But the pieces are starting fit nicely together and the Civil War game is starting to look real interesting. Could this be the year the streak ends?
