The San Antonio area has long been a piece of the great state of Texas that has gone ignored in the college football recruiting world, but over last few seasons the area's reputation has begun to evolve.

If the times are changing in San Antonio, there's a very real chance that Cibolo Steele 2011 running back Malcolm Brown might be the prospect that smashes down whatever old views the nation had about San Antonio football.

The 6-0, 205-pound sophomore is one of the state's top young prospects and has dazzled the San Antonio area this season with his play on the field, as he's rushed for more than 1,300 yards and 17 touchdowns on an impressive 10.1 yards per carry for a Steele squad that is 9-1 and poised to do big things in the playoffs.

"We expected to have a good season," Brown said. "I didn't doubt that we would have success before the year started, but everything has been going real well. It's not just me, but the whole team. Everything we've been able to accomplish is because of the team."

Although Brown entered the season with high hopes and those following him had even larger expectations, he says that he hasn't let the attention impact his approach to the game.

"I played with the varsity in last game and in the playoffs last season, so I had a little bit of experience," Brown said. "I really wasn't even thinking about (a big statistical season) coming into the year. I really just wanted to contribute to our team. It doesn't matter how many yards I get. I just want to help the team.

As far as recruiting goes, Brown doesn't really have any notion of how the process will unfold in the coming years. While his name is already well-established, he hasn't yet jumped head first into the recruiting game.

"No sir, I haven't been to any (college) games this year," Brown said. "Right now I really don't know (about favorites). Colleges can't really do anything right now and I haven't really decided on anything."

Note: The San Antonio Express-News reports that Brown has suffered a hairline fracture in his right foot and will likely miss the rest of the season.
