June 21, 2012Marquise Moore grew up going to Toledo Rocket football games. Now, the Whitmer standout will have the chance to play for his hometown team.
Moore, a 6-foot-1, 270 pound defensive tackle, committed to play at Toledo during the Rockets' Friday Night Lights camp on June 8th.
"I got a great reaction," Moore said. "It was after the camp and we were on the field and I told him (Coach Matt Campbell) I want to be a Rocket. They all ran up to me and hugged me. It was a great feeling."
Playing in his hometown will be an advantage to Moore, as will his familiarity with the coaching staff.
"The coaching staff made me feel comfortable and I have to be comfortable with them because I'm going to be with them for the next four years," Moore said. "They made me feel like family."
Moore has developed a close relationship with Campbell during the recruiting process.
"Coach Campbell, he's a great coach," Moore said. "I just love him. He's a great guy. He talks with me. I call him and we have deep conversations. He'll do anything for me."
Moore, the #7 ranked defensive tackle prospect in the state of Ohio, says he would like to improve his technique before he gets to play at the college level. However, he feels he has qualities that will help him succeed for Toledo.
"I think I bring an explosive player to the defensive tackle position," Moore said. "I have a lot of speed and size and (defensive line) coach Rasheed will coach me up to where he wants me to be and then we'll be great."
Moore says he looks up to Ray Lewis because he is a great leader and is the "hype man" for the Ravens' defense. Like Lewis, Moore wants to be a leader to his defensive unit, although in a slightly different way.
"I'm quiet guy off the field," Moore said. "I'm a quiet guy. I don't talk very much, but once I get on the field it's all professional. Everything is fast and explosive. I just talk with my pads."
Moore is rated three stars by Rivals.com.
