Thursday Practice Notes

There was a lot of teaching going on during Thursday's practice. Coach Frank Gansz Jr. barked to one of his players on the punting team, "if you're the first one on the spot and the return man calls for a fair catch run by him." Of course the reason being if the return man lets the ball go the gunner is to get into position to down the ball before it goes into the end zone.

In the offseason, Sean Westgate put in the work. The word is he is either the second or third strongest linebacker on the team. Akeem Ayers is the strongest, perhaps Patrick Larimore, my source wasn't sure who had the better numbers, Larimore or Westgate, but that is pretty impressive. Pound for pound, Westgate is one of the strongest members on the team.

Speaking of Westgate during one, 11-on-11 drill, he blitzed and would have recorded a sack on Kevin Prince, but because it was a drill Westgate ran past Prince, who continued the play and threw an absolute strike to Taylor Embree for a would be score.
