Izzo watches Williams dominate

BEVERLY HILLS, Mich. - With just one game for the Spartans in Big Ten play this week, Spartan coach Tom Izzo has used what little spare time available to evaluate Spartan recruiting targets. Izzo was in Bay City on Tuesday to watch Mt. Pleasant star Trey Zeigler take on Bay City Central at BCC. The next evening, Izzo was in the Motor City to take a look at one of the top post prospects in the Midwest in Detroit Country Day's Amir Williams.

The 6-foot-10 Williams put on a show for the Spartan head coach with 19 points and 11 rebounds in a double-digit blowout of Detroit Denby.

Country Day has played the one of the toughest schedule of any team in the state. That slate continues as the Yellowjackets work their way toward the MHSAA playoffs with tough games against Saginaw Arthur Hill, Flint Northern, and Romulus. The Yellowjackets are the favorite to win a Class B state championship in Michigan.

"We are going to get a title this year," predicted Williams. "Overall, our team is a great team. We are unselfish, we have players that can dominate at any time during the game. Our offense is incredible this year and our defense is stepping up a lot."
