Penn State leading for four-star DE
Penn State is the only school Philadelphia (Pa.) Northeast defensive end Deion Barnes has officially visit thus far and that trip is paying off big-time for the Nittany Lions.
It's been about three weeks since the four-star prospect visited Penn State, but Barnes is still very high on the Big Ten school.
The 6-foot-5, 220-pound prospect will probably be taking at least two more official visits before he makes his decision, but for now Penn State appears to be the school to beat.
"I'd say Penn State is standing out," Barnes said. "That's the last school I've been to and I guess they're standing out. The visit went real good. I enjoyed myself out there."
Barnes has tentatively scheduled official visits to the other two schools he is still considering.
"I think I'm going to Michigan on (January) 7 and Georgia on (January) 14," Barnes said. "I'm still trying to set up the transportation for that, but I think that's when I'm taking those (visits)."
Penn State, Michigan and Georgia are Barnes' three finalists. Until recently he was also high on Pittsburgh, but that was before the Panthers and head coach Dave Wannstedt parted ways.
Barnes isn't totally ruling out Pitt, but the Panthers would have to make a move soon.
"I don't know what's going on there with the coaching change," Barnes said. "Until somebody from Pitt contacts me I don't know."
