Voltz has soft spot for Big Ten

With already 13 offers to his name - Arizona, Boston College, Cincinnati, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Purdue, Vanderbilt, Western Michigan and Wisconsin - Barrington (Ill.) Class of 2012 offensive line prospect Dan Voltz is one of the hottest names in Midwest recruiting.

Still early in his recruiting process, Voltz (6-5, 289) is taking in the recruiting process and refraining from naming favorites before he has a chance to look at more of his suitors.

"Right now I'm kind of just trying to see and kind of get to know as many schools as I can," Voltz told SpartanMag.com on Monday night. "But right now I would say the majority of the Big Ten schools are kind of what I'm really looking at the hardest because that's what I kind of want to play, Big Ten football. It's just my type of football."

Voltz added when asked about having a childhood favorite: "I grew up a pretty big Northwestern fan. I have a pretty food relationship with the coaches over there. I've visited the school a bunch of times. So, yeah, it's the school I was a big fan of growing up."

Despite being listed as an offensive tackle prospect in the Rivals.com database, Voltz indicated that college coaches are projecting him to play offensive guard or center.

That's exactly where Michigan State projects him, and Voltz had a chance to meet with the Spartans in-person during a junior day on Sunday, Jan. 30. He left East Lansing with an offer.
