Huge pickup for Dawgs

After months of wondering and hand-wringing by coaches and fans alike, five-star offensive tackle John Theus made it official Friday, giving his verbal commitment to Georgia head coach Mark Richt.

The 6-foot-6, 292-pounder chose the Bulldogs over Florida and Texas.

The 7th-best prospect in the country according to Rivals.com, Theus said he would immediately start recruiting on Georgia's behalf.

Ironically, Theus committed to Georgia on the same day his older brother Nathan pulled the trigger and said yes to the Bulldogs following last year's Dawg Night festivities.

The younger Theus becomes Georgia's 11th verbal commitment. His Georgia offer was one of 22 for the talented tackle, a list that included a list of national institutions like Southern Cal, Michigan and Notre Dame.

He is the first offensive linemen to commit to Georgia for 2012. Richt said the Bulldogs hope to sign at least six offensive linemen for the upcoming year.
