Benjamin raking in offers

The recruiting process starts earlier and earlier each year, and 2013 Middleton (Tampa, Fla.) wide receiver Richard Benjamin already has over a dozen offers before the end of his junior year of high school.

Benjamin lined up at quarterback, running back, wide receiver, and even returned kicks for the Tigers this fall, but all of those offers have been to play wide receiver.

The amount of offers is impressive, but the quality of those offers is also striking.

"I have offers from Georgia, Florida, Miami, Tennessee, Alabama, Notre Dame, Vandy, and a lot of other offers," he said.

As one would imagine, with so many offers on the table and over a year to decide, no program has really stood out to this point.

"I'm completely open," said Benjamin. "No school leads really. As I have gotten more offers, I have really started considering everyone."

One of the most important times for a junior recruit is the summer before his senior year.

This gives the prospect time to visit schools and attend camps in hopes of spending time with other recruits, getting better, and meeting the coaches at their prospective schools.

Although he has a few months to decide, Benjamin is working on getting those plans nailed down.

"I have a visit planned to Vandy, this spring" said Benjamin. "I'll also visit USC, and I'll take a trip to Georgia."

Benjamin's latest offer was from the Georgia Bulldogs, and while he admittedly grew up a fan of Miami and Florida, he will be giving UGA a serious look.

"I like what they do and the way they do it," he said. "I was at Georgia Tech for the Georgia game and they did some good things. I will be taking a trip there for sure."

A big trend in recruiting these days is to wait until January for an All-American game or until Signing Day to announce, but a special circumstance has the Sunshine State star wanting to announce early.

"I will graduate early, and enroll in the spring," said Benjamin. "So I want to make a decision in the spring. I want to commit after I take all my visits, so I'll probably announce before my senior season."
