Tales at tailback

AUBURN -- The Mike Blakely Story has ended the way many expected after an inauspicious opening, a middle filled with whispers about work ethic and a fumbled finish.

The redshirt sophomore tailback has withdrawn from Auburn University and is back home in Clearwater, Fla. His plan is to enroll at South Florida and resume/begin his career under the watchful eye of new Bulls coach Willie Taggart.

This could be the new start Blakely needs.

His previous starts were messy. Blakely signed with Florida in December 2011 and enrolled early despite signs that he favored Auburn. After an odd spring semester, he was granted a full release by coach Will Muschamp with the understanding that Auburn would be his destination.

It was an odd development.
