Following the Future - Week 2

Each week during the high school football season Inside the Gators Blake Alderman and Robert Lopez provide the Internet's most comprehensive, in-depth update on how each of Florida's public commitments fared over the weekend.


Three-star offensive tackle Dontae Angus

Results: Philadelphia (Pa.) Martin Luther King was defeated 20-16 by Philadelphia (Pa.) Mastery Charter North.

Note: Angus saw time at both offensive tackle and defensive tackle during the game.

Next Up: The Cougars are looking for their first win of the season as they travel to Philadelphia (Pa) John Bartram (1-1).

Three-star defensive end Taven Bryan

Results: Cheyenne (Wyo.) Natrona County was defeated 42-41 by Cheyenne (Wyo.) East.

Quotable: "It was a tough close loss but we are coming together as a team and will just need to bounce back and learn from our mistakes."

Next Up: The Mustangs (1-1) will host Laramie (Wyo.) (1-1).

Rivals250 four-star defensive tackle Khairi Clark

Results: Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade Madonna was defeated 27-23 by Miami (Fla.) Monsignor Pace.

Quotable: "I think overall I played the best I could. I finished the game with six tackles, two sacks, and one field goal block."

Next Up: The Lions (0-2) will travel to Miami (Fla.) Gulliver Prep (2-0) on Thursday. The Gators are expected to have coaches in attendance.

Rivals100 four-star running back Dalvin Cook

Results: In a battle of south Florida heavyweights, Miami (Fla.) Central lost 28-17 to Miami (Fla.) Booker T. Washington

Stats: According to the Miami Herald Cook ended the game with 59 rushing yards and one touchdown on 11 carries. Through two games he now has 201 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 24 carries.

Note: Cook will officially visit the Texas Longhorns this weekend for his first of five official visits.

Next Up: The Rockets (1-1) will host Miami (Fla.) Coral Reef (2-0). Cook is also expected to have coaches visit him from UF on both Thursday and Friday.

Rivals250 four-star cornerback Duke Dawson

Results: Cross City (Fla.) Dixie County defeated Monticello (Fla.) Jefferson County 14-0.

Next Visit to Florida: Dawson, who was a regular last season at Florida's home games, will make his first trip of the fall to Gainesville when the Gators host Tennessee next weekend.

Next Up: The Bears (2-0) will host Trenton (Fla.) (1-0-1).

Three star offensive guard Travaris Dorsey

Results: Jacksonville (Fla.) Raines was defeated 25-7 by Miami (Fla.) Northwestern on Saturday.

Quotable: "We had four to five bad snaps tonight. I don't know if it was because this was our first time playing here and the atmosphere was loud, but just look at the scoreboard. We only gave up one touchdown on defense. It was just that offensively we struggled. I don't know how we let it get away from us."- Raines coach Deran Wiley to the Florida Times Union.

Next Up: The Vikings (1-1) will host Jacksonville (Fla.) First Coast (2-0) on Friday.

Rivals100 four-star quarterback Will Grier

Results: Davidson (N.C.) Day defeated Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day 46-20 on Saturday.

Stats: According to Grier threw for 356 yards on 25 of 38 passes with 6 touchdowns and two interceptions and also 194 yards rushing with a rushing touchdown.

Note: This game brought Grier to 1026 yards passing, 20 touchdowns and five interceptions on the season.

Next Up: Davidson Day (3-0) will travel to Harrells (N.C.) Christian Academy (3-0).

Rivals250 four-star cornerback J.C. Jackson

Results: Immokalee (Fla.) was defeated 13-12 by Clewiston (Fla.).

Note: Jackson sat out for the game and is serving a two game suspension for violating team rules.
Next Up: The Indians (0-2) will host Naples (Fla.) First Baptist Academy (3-0). This will be Jackson's final game he is suspended for.

Four-star offensive tackle Nolan Kelleher

Results: Mt. Pleasant (S.C.) Wando tied 0-0 with Summerville (S.C.) Ashley Ridge

Next Up: The Warriors (1-1-1) will travel to Walterboro (Sc.) Colleton County (0-2).

Four-star cornerback Chris Lammons

Results: Plantation (Fla.) defeated Coral Springs (Fla.) Taravella 49-21.

Stats: According to Lammons, he threw for four touchdowns in the win.

Quotable: "We fought a hard game and it's nice to kick off the season with a win. The team is looking really good so far and I think we can go all the way."

Next Up: The Colonials (2-0) will travel to Miramar (Fla.) (2-0) on Thursday. Florida head coach Will Muschamp and defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson are expected to visit.

Rivals100 four-star wide receiver Ermon Lane

Results: Homestead (Fla.) defeated Miami (Fla.) Southridge 45-22.

Next Up: The Broncos (2-1) are off this week.

Three-star tight end C'Yontai Lewis

Results: Alabaster (Ala.) Kingwood Christian was defeated 28-7 by Bessemer (Ala.) Academy.

Stats: In the loss Lewis had three receptions for 47 yards with a long catch of 30 yards.

Next Up: The Lions (2-1) will host Phenix City (Ala.) Glenwood (1-2).

Three-star defensive end Justus Reed

Results: Clearwater (Fla.) Central Catholic was defeated 13-10 by Tampa (Fla.) Catholic.

Stats: Reed had a sack in the loss.

Next Up: The Marauders (1-1) will host Tampa (Fla.) Jesuit (1-1).

Rivals250 four-star cornerback Quincy Wilson

Results: Forth Lauderdale (Fla.) University School defeated Miami (Fla.) Norland 47-12.

Quotable: "It was a hard fought game, but me and my teammates came out the winners. We are having a good season and have a lot of good players I am excited for the rest of the season."

Next Up: The Suns (3-0) will travel to Weston (Fla.) Cypress Bay on Thursday.
