Southlake kicker planning on visiting

In the past few years, Mizzou has seen its fair share of commitments from the state of Texas. It struck gold when it went to Southlake Carroll and grabbed Chase Daniel, and this year they found defensive end Brayden Burnett. Kicker and linebacker Cade Foster is another athlete at Southlake that has heard from Mizzou.

Foster said he has received letters from most of the Division 1 schools and has been in touch with LSU and Texas Tech the most. These are not the only programs that he is interested in though.

"I have a friend that goes to Missouri, Brayden Burnett," the kicker said. "It's the fact that a Southlake quarterback has done so well there and is a piece of history for Southlake tradition. It would be cool to carry it on there."

Foster believes that part of the reason he is getting so much attention is because of his size. At 6-foot-1 and 215lbs., he does not fit the mold for a normal kicker and uses his size to his advantage.

"I think colleges see a lot of potential in me, and I think a big factor for the kicking aspect is that I am not like most other kickers because I am a little bigger because I play linebacker too," the junior said. "I have powerful kickoffs, and I think that I am capable on kickoffs to make a tackle and be an extra guy on the field for the kick."

Other than being both the place and field goal kicker for his team, Foster also plays middle linebacker. As far as recruiting goes, he is mainly being recruited as a kicker, and he has no problem with that.

"I would be completely content with playing kicker and that is kind of what I want to do right now," he said. "I am going to continue and wait to see what I am recruited at though."

During the past season, Foster was six for nine on field goal attempts, and he made 100 percent of field goals under 50 yards he said. The 2010 recruit said he still has room for improvement.

"I think the main thing for me is going to be getting more fundamentally sound and work on my technique through a lot of specialized coaches in the area," Foster said. "The big thing during the season is going to be endurance with playing linebacker and kicker. I just need to work on getting in better shape for that."

Foster said that he would like to play in the SEC, ACC or Big 12 and has a few trips planned for next summer. He also said that he would prefer to play outside of Texas as of right now.

"I am planning on going on some visits around the summer, and Missouri is going to be one of them along with LSU and Texas Tech and some other schools that I am not quite sure about yet," he said. "Those are the three I am planning on."

When it comes to recruiting, the junior said that he has been talking with Burnett about what to expect. As far as Burnett having an influence on Foster coming to Missouri?

"Not particularly important," he said. "I mean it would be nice for that to work out, but I mean I am going to do it because it's good for me. But, I am not going to go there because a friend is there."
