More news surfaces from Blue situation
As first reported on this site Thursday evening, 2010 basketball prospect Vander Blue decided Monday evening to reopen his recruitment and explore other academic and athletic options.
According to two sources, Blue had a conference Monday night to discuss academics with various members from Wisconsin. In attendance was Blue, his mother, Rita Blue, Howard Moore, Blue's primary recruiting contact on the UW staff, head coach Bo Ryan and academic advisors from Wisconsin.
At the meeting, according to the report, Blue announced he was "reopening his recruitment," in the middle of the meeting, an announcement that was not expected by any of the parties involved.
Whether Blue's current grades at Memorial are a concern at the present time is not known.
As reported by this site, Marquette is one of two or three schools Blue is now considering. Former Memorial teammate Jeronne Maymon is set to play for MU next season, a substantial reason why the Golden Eagles are now in the picture, according to those close to the situation.
Blue and Maymon were key parts of Memorial's state-championship team this past season. Furthermore, former Marquette and Memorial guard Wesley Matthews has reportedly been in close contact with Blue as well.
Other schools that are reportedly in the picture include Minnesota, Kentucky and Louisville.
The possibility of Blue still signing with Wisconsin is still a possibility at this point. No one involved with this story reported that he has ruled the Badgers completely out of the picture.
Blue was slated to occupy one of two open scholarships Wisconsin had in its 2010 class. The other verbal commitment UW received was from Evan Anderson, a 6-foot-11, 255-pound center from Eau Claire (Wis.) North.
Messages to Steve Collins, the head coach at Memorial, and to Blue were not immediately returned last evening or during the day Tuesday.
Rita Blue was also contacted by email this morning but has not responded.
