Franklin speaks about a friend
Before Bruin redshirt freshman running back Johnathan Franklin was the next great back from Los Angeles (Calif.) Dorsey, there was USC senior running back Stafon Johnson carrying the torch before him.
There is a rich tradition at Dorsey high school and all players who have gone before or have come after understand this. There is a love and brotherhood that bonds Dorsey players together. It even crosses over the intense UCLA/USC rivalry as we all learned when Johnson suffered from a freakish weight lifting accident that put quite a scare to Johnson and everyone who cares about him.
Two of those who care deeply for Johnson are Franklin and his sophomore safety teammate at UCLA, Rahim Moore. We heard from Moore earlier, now we will hear from who Bruin fans affectionately call "Jet Ski" because of his explosive speed, their start freshman running back Johnathan Franklin.
BruinBlitz.com: How close of a friend are you to Stafon?
Franklin: "Stafon is a real good friend. Coming into high school, he was the man at Dorsey. I really looked up to him and he showed me around and tried to help me understand things. Even as a running back, he was the star running back at Dorsey and I really to looked to him to help work on my game and I played behind him so basically, Stafon was my role model. He was a leader to me so he was a big idol. He was a big idol in my life and my heart just goes out to him and my prayers. It's tough time, but you never know there may be blessing there somewhere in the end."
