Pollard on the national stage

Kemper County (Miss.) junior Devonta Pollard posted some impressive totals this past year on the hardwood and averaged 24.2 points, 13.8 boards and 5.3 blocked shots. But the 6-foot-7 and 190-pound forward/wing prospect has continued his solid play this spring.

One of his recent stops included the King James Classic where Pollard was one of the most talked-about prospects on hand.

"It was a good experience and just good to get qualified and invited to the King James Classic," said Pollard. "I had a pretty good showing and I have also been invited to the Kevin Durant showcase and the NBA Top 100 camp. It's been a pretty good feeling to get invited to these events but I also have to go and be on my game and produced well. I got off to a good start at Lebron James' camp and I want to keep it up."

Playing AAU ball with the Southern Phenoms, Pollard also displayed his skills on that circuit this month despte getting off to a slow start.

"We had a big tournament in Indiana where you had to get qualified for the Nike camps," said Pollard. "We got beat in the quarterfinals so we won a few games. I did okay but before our last game, I was catching a lot of cramps. I felt them coming on in the first quarter of our last game. So I had to sit out and didn't make it back until the fourth quarter."

Pollard currently owns offers from Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Auburn, Alabama, LSU and Georgetown. He also noted another SEC school has started to get in the mix of late.

"I don't have any new offers lately but Kentucky is still starting to show interest," said Pollard. "I am looking at everyone evenly and I talk to all of them on a regular basis. It's kinda funny cause it seems like all these coaches get together and decide to call on the same day (laughing). When one calls it seems like all of them call."

Having recruited him for quite some time now, Pollard added that things are still going well with the Bulldogs.

"It's going good with State," said Pollard. "They are still one of the main schools I am looking at. They have a great class coming in and they should be really good next year."

Pollard noted he wasn't sure if he would sign in the early or late signing period concerning the Class of 2012. Buthe does have an idea of what he is looking for in his possible future destination.

"Just basically wanting to see how the coaches are and not just on the court but off the court," said Pollard. "Academics is also going to be a big factor. I don't want to just have a good college basketball career and I want to get a good education, too. I want to make sure I have a good education because you can't play basketball forever."
