State Tournament Action - Day 2

The second day of the MHSAA State Tournament saw the North continue it's dominance, for the most part. as there was one South winner on the day. Finals are now set for 1A, 2A and 3A.

Boys Action:

Kemper County 62 Aberdeen 58

McDonald's All-American Devonta Pollard scored 22 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the Wildcats into the 3A championship game against Booneville. The Wildcats opened a seven point lead at the end of the first quarter, expanded it to double figures in the third, at that point Aberdeen turned up the pressure and came storming back getting within two a number of times, but behind Pollard and Nick Jiles who had 20 points, 11 in the fourth quarter, the Wildcats held on to advance to their second 3A championship game in three years. Aberdeen was lead by Shedrick Fair with 25 points and Jakeese Walker added 13.


Biggersville 64 Durant 44

Biggesville used a strong defensive performance to stifle Durant and propel the Lions into the 1A championship game. Durant was able to connect on only 28 percent shooting in the first half as the Lions opened a 31-16 halftime lead before blowing the game wide open in the third quarter The Lions were led by Sr. Dexter Stafford with 18 points and 9 rebounds, while Jaylon Gaines and Daniel Simmons added 13 points each. Theodore Haynes was Durant's only double figure scorer with 7 points.


Coldwater 67 West Lincoln 62

The Cougars opened the game on a 13-0 run and led by 15 after the first quarter propelling the Cougars into the 1A championship game next week. The Cougars were led by the trio of Chris Vortis with 13 points and 9 assist, Devonta Roberts with 19 points and 8 rebounds and Marcel Newsome with 18 points. West Lincoln was lead by a trio of undeclassmen as Jr. Jared Case scored 20 points, 9th grader Duane Marshall had 13 points and Jr. Lucas Burris had 12 points and 9 rebounds.


Girls Action:


Belmont 63 Choctaw Central 50

Angelia Allen scored 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Lady Cardinals into the 3A finals against Ripley. Belmont put the game away as they outscored the Lady Warriors 38-20 in the second half. Allen was supported by Kelsie Montgomery with 17 points and Elisiah Jones with 10. The lady Warriors were led by Kristen Dixon with 15 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks an Lashayla McMillian with 14 points.


H.W. Byers 75 Bogue Chitto 39

Byers jumped all over Bogue Chitto early, leading 31-5 at the end of the first quarter and coasted into the 1A finals. Byers was lead by Kyra Gulledge with 19 points, 10 rebounds and 4 steals. Joining her in double figures were Alexis Hardaway with 16 points and Justice Martin with 10. Bouge Chitto was led by Adrienne Wallace with 16 points.


Coldwater 69 Hinds AHS 43

The Lady Cougars looked to match their north rivals earlier victory opening a 44-13 halftime lead to also coast into the 1A final. Jerontay Clemons led Coldwater with 31 points, 22 rebounds and 5 assist. Charmaine Stackhouse supported Clemons with 12 points. Hinds was led by Octavia Barnes with 25 points and 15 rebounds.
