UCLA hires Tuiasosopo for vacant coaching position

After a long search to fill the vacancy on his staff, UCLA head coach Jim Mora has found his man.

Two sources told BruinSportsReport.com late Tuesday afternoon that former Colorado assistant Mike Tuiasosopo has been hired to fill the void on the staff left by former defensive coordinator Lou Spanos.

Tuiasopo, 50, is an American Samoa native who's spent the majority of the past decade coaching at Arizona and, most recently, at Colorado. He was not retained by the Buffs when Mike MacIntyre was brought in to replace Jon Embree in Boulder last year.

It is assumed Tuiasosopo will come in and handle UCLA's linebackers, despite being a long-time defensive line coach.

In his two years at Colorado, Tuiasosopo was considered one of the better recruiters on the staff, bringing in three-star prospects Marvin Hall, Patrick Onwuasor, Tyler Henington, Samson Kafovalu and Josh Tupou.

Mora also interviewed UCLA assistant linebackers coach Scott White and San Diego State assistant coach Tony White for the job, according to sources.
