English commits to UCLA
Three-star defensive tackle Bryce English has committed to UCLA, the 5-foot-11, 320-pound Texas prospect announced at his home Monday night.
The DeSoto (Texas) athlete visited UCLA and Los Angeles last week, and apparently that was enough to push the big interior defensive lineman to Westwood.
"I talked it over with my family right after I left UCLA and I just knew from there it was a great fit," he said during his announcement ceremony on the local Fox affiliate in Texas. "Coming in and being in Los Angeles, it's a great city. It's great. I love L.A."
Adrian Klemm initially began recruiting English shortly after his Texas decommitment last April. The UCLA offensive line coach, who's close to the DeSoto staff, scouted him and brought back the report to Jim Mora.
The bond between English and the staff grew from there, and when English was finally able to see UCLA last week on an unofficial visit, he knew that would be his future home.
"UCLA is a great fit for me," English said. "Defensive-wise, I love the coaches. Coach McClure is a great D-line coach I'm ready to get down there and show everybody what I have in store."
English is yet another top Texas prospect to join the UCLA fold since Mora and Klemm arrived three years ago. The big DT joins Eldridge Massington, Caleb Benenoch, NaJee Toran, Aaron Sharp, Zach Whitley, Deon Hollins and Simon Goines as native Texans who spurned the Big 12 and SEC to head West.
And, according to Rivals.com Mid-South Recruiting Analyst Jason Howell, English's commitment may not be the last one from Texas, either.
"DeSoto is never a bad program to get into," Howell said. "They have a lot of talent every year, and English is a guy that can help pave the way for a few other guys down the road."
