Friday is the day
Vidal Hazelton is ready to sign his Letter of Intent and has targeted Friday to be the day. Hazelton, who originally committed to Southern Cal, will choose between the Trojans and Penn State Nittany Lions on Friday according to his father.Chatham (Va.) Hargrave Military wide receiver
"Vidal told me that Friday is the day," said Dexter Hazelton, Vidal's father. "I'm leaving it up to him entirely and he told me he wants to do it by the weekend and Friday would be the day."
Hazelton originally signed a letter with Southern Cal on Signing Day, Feb. 1, but his father wouldn't sign it as well. Any recruit under 21-years old must have a parent or guardian sign his letter as well.
Hazelton, a 6-foot-3, 198-pounder who is ranked as the No. 2 wide receiver and No. 7 player overall in the 2006 recruiting class, took an unofficial visit to Penn State a weekend ago with his family to get one final look.
Dexter has made it clear that he and the family prefer Penn State over Southern Cal, but re-iterated on Tuesday that he would sign whatever letter Vidal signed on Friday.
"The family would make adjustments and do whatever we needed to do to support him if Vidal chooses Southern Cal," he said. "We'd make any sacrifices needed to see Vidal play."
And if he chose Penn State?
"We'd all be able to attend every game," he said. "But this is Vidal's choice because he's the one who will be spending his time in college."
The elder Hazelton has not pulled punches when it comes to his feelings about Southern Cal head coach Pete Carroll, calling him a "shark" on more than one occassion. Have his feelings changed?
"I've talked at length with coach Carroll many times since," he said. "If Vidal chooses USC there will be no problems at all. I'll be hoping that coach Carroll proves me wrong and will be happy to admit it if he does."
Vidal, who has chosen to remain somewhat silent over the last few weeks, has been contacted by quarterbacks from both schools in recent days. As of this past Friday, he had no clue where he was headed.
"I honestly couldn't tell you," Vidal said. "That's the truth. I'm so confused right now but I'm getting tired of it. I just want to make a decision soon and get this all over with."
Looks like Friday will be that day.
