Day two from the McDonald's AA Game

  • McDonald's: Day One | McD's practice chat | Video: Scotty Hopson | Greg Monroe

MILWAUKEE - Two of the top guards in the country Jrue Holiday and Tyreke Evans made it to Milwaukee for their first practice at the McDonald's All American Game. After practice Evans spoke with Rivals.com about his recruitment.

Down to Connecticut, Memphis, Texas and Villanova, Evans will wait until April 16, the first day of the spring signing period, to announce his college decision. Until that time, he will be keeping an eye on the NCAA tournament.

"I want to wait so I can look at how the coaches coach during the tournament," said Evans. "I want to see if they change their game plan or stick to what they have been doing all season."

Along with watching the coaches, Evans will be studying the guard play in the tournament.

"I want to go to a school where there is a lot of guard play and where I can be in a situation to improve at things I'm not used to doing," he said. "I want to mix it up and have the ball and also work off a lot of screens. I've been watching USC games, and I see O.J. (Mayo) come off a lot of screens away from the ball. I've never really done that because I've always had the ball in my hands."

Although Evans refuses to tip his hand regarding a favorite school, Memphis and Texas are considered the top candidates to land him. Villanova, however, will have one more chance to convince Evans to stay in Philadelphia.

"I took my last visit to Memphis, but when I go home, Villanova wants me to come up there and visit," he said. "So I'll do that when I get home."

    East squad observations

Evans immediately joined Kemba Walker, Al-Farouq Aminu, Samardo Samuels and Tyler Zeller on the first team.

Ed Davis had a particularly productive day. He was active on the boards and scored the ball efficiently in the paint. His left handed jump hook is dialed in.

Samuels has let it fly from deep on a couple of occasions during the East scrimmages. Yesterday's attempt found the bottom of the net, but today's attempt came up short. Not known as a long range shooter, the big bodied Samuels is scheduled to participate in tonight's three-point shooting contest.

Walker's play at the point has been impressive. Fast and strong with the ball, he has a knack for leading a team and distributing the ball. Mentally and physically he is ready to lead a college team. He will provide some competitive fiber to the Connecticut roster.

Once again Chris Singleton stood out during the East scrimmage with his hustle and knack for coming up with the ball. His effort on defense and his willingness to pass the ball has been refreshing.

    West squad observations

With Holiday joining the starting five with Brandon Jennings, Demar DeRozan, Greg Monroe and B.J. Mullens, the West turned it up a notch defensively compared to Sunday.

Jennings had a productive day during the West scrimmage. He had a handful of nifty assist passes, was disruptive on defense and shot the ball well from the outside.

Mullens is a rarity with his size and athleticism. On several occasions, he had participants' family members and media in the crowd collectively shaking their heads after some powerful and acrobatic plays.

Iman Shumpert also had some eye catching athletic plays.
