Vols land receiver Ambles

The Tennessee Volunteers received a huge commitment to start the last week of July as Lane Kiffin and his staff landed their first pure skill position player for the class of 2010. And he's a good one.

McDonough (Ga.) Henry County wide receiver Markeith Ambles, one of the nation's top 50 prospects and the No. 7 receiver in the country, has committed to Tennessee over offers from Florida, Alabama, Florida State, Notre Dame and many others.

"I decided to commit this week because it was time to get things over and focus on next season," said the 6-foot-2, 182-pounder. "Tennessee was one of the schools that showed me love from the start to the finish, and I wanted to go someplace where they really wanted me. I didn't want to be just another guy, I wanted to be one of the top guys. The offense is great, it's the USC offense now here on the east coast and Coach Kiffin and the coaches have been great to me."

Ambles committed following an appearance at Friday Night Lights at Florida. Many thought he was going to commit to the Gators, but he decided to become a Vol instead.

"It was really close between the two of them," he said. "Both Florida and Tennessee were up there but Tennessee was a better fit and I just felt they wanted me more. I've always liked Tennessee and have been up there and felt comfortable. The coaching staff is great, the fans are great and the facilities are impressive. I'm happy the process is over and I have a new home."

As a junior, Ambles caught 53 passes for 993 yards and 13 touchdowns. He is ready to start working the phones for Tennessee to help bring some more offense to Knoxville.

"I'm going to recruit for my team now," he said. "They think I can help with bringing in a quarterback and I think I can help that as well. I'm going to start making some calls right away and I need to get myself a Tennessee hat now and wear it wherever I go. I'm a Vol now."
