Free Preview: Bruins Target Bruce Davis

There was a huge buzz ever since the end of UCLA’s four-day camp last June regarding Bruin legacy recruit Bruce Davis (6-4, 230, 4.69) from League City (Texas) Clear Creek.
There was a rumor circulating that Davis, who was committed to Texas, changed his mind and pledged to the Bruins during his stay. That rumor turned out to be false.

Davis no longer considers himself a Longhorn commit and now says the playing field is even between UCLA and Texas.
The Bruins and Longhorns have distanced themselves from Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Missouri, Kansas, Kansas State, and Arkansas, all who have offered the talented Davis a scholie.
Davis is football fast and extremely quick. He is virtually unstoppable on the high school level. Davis camped in his opponents backfield racking up approximately 20 tackles for loss and eight sacks his junior season. He also picked up 40 solo tackles.
The scouting report on Davis is he has great size, speed and he uses his hands extremely well. He is able to shed blocks, make a read and then stuff a play.
Davis has outstanding strength. He benches 300 pounds, squats 475, power cleans 260 and has recorded 28-inch vertical jump.
Davis has outstanding bloodlines and his bloodlines have Bruin ties. Both his Dad and his uncle played for UCLA. His father, Bruce Davis, Sr., continued his football after UCLA with a good career in the NFL playing for the Raiders and the Houston Oilers.
The Bruin connection doesn’t end with his Dad and Uncle. The Davis family is also very close the McNeal family as in Eric McNeal one of the prize Bruin recruits who signed last February.
Will Davis’ friendship with McNeal play a part in his decision? “It could play a little bit in my decision,” Davis said.
Is there a decision regarding college choice in the very near future?
“The way its going now, I’m going to take my time and concentrate on my senior season,” Davis said.
“Both Texas and UCLA are nice places to play, have good academics and great football programs,” Davis said about his two favorite schools.
The battle for Davis’ services looks to be an intense battle between two football powerhouses. It will keep fans from both schools on needles and pins until a decision is made.
