Free Preview: Kirby Joseph Bruin future star

The Bruins are looking very good in the future at the linebacker position. The latest incoming freshman that BruinBlitz has been able to track down is Kirby Joseph.
Folks this guy is growing like a weed, getting stronger and much quicker. BruinBlitz had Joseph at 6-foot-1, 220 pounds and running a 4.6 40-yard dash.

Now Joseph stands 6-foot-2, weighs 245 pounds and is now running a 4.46 40-yard dash.
“I hired a speed coach because speed and quickness separate the great ones from the good ones,” Joseph said. “My fasted time ever is 4.32.”
Wow, now that is a sizzling time for any size, but when you’re carrying around 245 pounds – well that is simply amazing.
Joseph is also impressive in the weight room. He benches 325 and squats 530 pounds.
Joseph is very explosive. “My best vertical is 38 inches,” Joseph said. “My average is about 36.”
How has Joseph been spending his summer?
“The Bruins sent me their power work out plan,” Joseph said. “I’ve been working on that and on my speed. The power program and my speed coach are getting me ready for D-I ball.”
“The coaches told me to workout hard and be ready,” Joseph said. “That’s exactly what I’ve been doing.”
“I’ve wanted to go to UCLA for two years,” Joseph said. “I took a two-day bus trip to attend UCLA’s camp both the spring of my sophomore and junior years. The bus trip alone was an adventure.”
“I want to major in film and television,” Joseph said. “I checked out schools in the south but they just didn’t measure up to UCLA.”
“Being in Los Angeles and right next to the industry made sense to me,” Joseph. “Besides UCLA is an academic and athletic powerhouse. When the academics and athletics merge it was the perfect fit for me. It was equal success on both sides of the equation.”
Rarely does a player that gets offered by LSU leave the state of Louisiana. Hollywood pulls in another talented person with dreams.
“It was tough to say no to LSU, but I knew what I wanted two years ago,” Joseph said. “I want to become the Bill Gates of the movie business. I want to know everything about and be able to do anything in the business.”
“When UCLA offered it was like a dream come true,” Joseph said. “It was like happy tears for me.”
This is what BruinBlitz had to say about the talented Mr. Joseph in our LOI wrap-up earlier in the year:
LB Kirby Joseph (6-2, 230, 4.6) from Lake Charles-Washington Marion (LA) is another fine linebacker with a big future. The Bruins were able to sign Kirby over offers from LSU and Texas A&M. Joseph accounted for 60 tackles and eight sacks as senior. He has all the intangibles to be a great player for the Bruins. Kirby is interested in studying film at UCLA.
