Free Report: Matt Raney signs UCLA LOI

The Bruins received the signed letter-of-intent of an outstanding tight end in Matt Raney (6-4, 260, 4.7) from Phoenix College in Arizona. Raney we find out is just what the doctor ordered for the Bruins. He puts the team first and he has outstanding character.
With Raney the Bruins get a great blocking tight end that is also a pass catching threat.

For the season of 2003, Raney caught 27 passes for 402 yards and one touchdown.
“We ran the ball a lot,” Phoenix College head coach Bill Laslett said. “Matt’s blocking stood out. He’s not only a very good athlete, but he is a superior blocker.”
“Matt is a great character kid,” Laslett said. “He put the team above himself his freshman year. Matt played tackle a year ago because we had depth problems. He put the team first.”
“Matt has a great work ethic,” Laslett said. “He only weighed 210 pounds out of high school and he was only 17.”
“Matt really developed and grew,” Laslett said. “He worked hard and his worked paid off. He became a D-I prospect.”
Why did Raney chose UCLA over offers from East Carolina, New Mexico, Temple and Northern Arizona?
“I chose UCLA pretty much because of the prestige of the program and its history,” Raney said. “It is also a chance to play in the Rose Bowl for every home game.”
“I always dreamed of playing in the Pac10,” Raney said. “Now I will get my chance.”
Raney has good strength that lifted 225-pounds, 25 times. He has three years to play two and will start class on January 7th so he will be able to participate in spring ball.
