The 13th-ranked UCLA men’s basketball team won its eighth consecutive game, dispatching UC Davis, 81-54, in the nonconference finale Wednesday afternoon at Pauley Pavilion.

Junior guard Jaylen Clark collected a double-double for the Bruins, finishing with game highs of 18 points and 11 rebounds. Point guard Tyger Campbell added 17 points and Jaime Jaquez Jr. chipped in 14 to round out the team’s double-figure scorers.

UCLA (11-2) overcame a sluggish start, shooting 55.6% (20 of 36) in the second half.

UC Davis (7-5) had three players score in double figures led by Elijah Pepper’s 16 points.

The Bruins, who improved to 8-0 at home, will resume their Pac-12 Conference slate on the road against the Washington schools starting with Washington State on Dec. 30

Tied at 11 with 11:09 left in the first half, the Bruins went on a 9-3 run bookended by Clark steals that led to his own fast break layups.

UCLA took its first double-digit lead, 30-19, on a Campbell basket with 2:34 left in the half. Campbell’s free throw inside the final minute was the final margin in the Bruins’ 33-21 lead at the break.

UCLA opened the second half on a 7-2 run and never looked back.

While Clark was the game’s high scorer and was his usual self on both ends of the floor, it was Campbell’s shooting touch that was a welcomed sight for UCLA.

Campbell made 6 of 11 shots, finishing at 50 percent or better for just the third time this season — and just the second instance when taking more than five shots.

Campbell had just two assists but did not turn the ball over.

Clark was once again a disruptive force, making 18 deflections in the game, and he said afterward that he should have come up with more than two steals.

UCLA freshmen Adem Bona and Amari Bailey delivered in one sequence.

With 13 minutes left, Bona delivered an emphatic block of Aggies guard Robby Beasley III. The ball bounced to Jaquez Jr., who dribbled up court before giving it up to Clark on the right wing. Clark drove and found Bailey in front of the UCLA bench for a 3-pointer to push the Bruins’ lead to 54-31.

The Bruins were just too big inside. UCLA attempted just 10 3-pointers, opting to hammer UC Davis in the paint 40-22.

The Aggies also turned the ball over 19 times, leading to 26 Bruins points.
