Free Preview: Bruin Target racking up offers

The Bruins seem to be in on some of the nation’s top recruits. One player that the Bruins have been in on since the get go is wide receiver/cornerback Noah Smith (6-0, 165, 4.35) from Woodland Hills (Calif.) Taft.

While Noah’s Taft teammate by the same surname of Smith, Steve Smith is getting the lion’s share of attention, Noah is certainly getting his fair share of D-I notice.

Noah Smith has 18 offers to date and after clocking a 10.53 in the 100 meter two weeks ago in the state meet, look for his list of offers to grow. In a previous interview, Taft head coach Troy Starr told BruinBlitz that he believed that Noah was the fastest football player in California. Starr just may have a point.

Though track is certainly in the cards for Smith on the collegiate level, Smith emphatically told BruinBlitz that “I’m definitely a football player. I will get my scholarship and my first devotion is to football.”

Yes, its true, Smith is a stellar track star, he’s even better on the gridiron. He is equally as good on offense as he is on defense.

BruinBlitz was out at a Taft practice and we can say that Noah Smith is a very smooth and talented athlete. In general, the whole Taft squad is very competitive and practiced hard. Let us tell you it was hot the day we were out there.

One thing we noticed about Smith is he’s one of the team leaders. He has a good sense of humor and keeps the rest of the team loose.

While Smith may be a key ingredient in the locker room keeping the team loose, between the lines he’s all business. Smith caught 48 passes for 1,100 yards for his junior season. What is so impressive about Noah Smith’s outstanding numbers is the fact that Steve Smith is many times the primary target.

Smith has 18 offers at the current time. UCLA was the first with Ohio State following shortly after according to Coach Starr.

“Right now my short list includes UCLA, USC, Washington, Washington State, Arizona, Arizona State, Michigan State, Michigan and Tennessee,” Smith said.

Just a sidebar: Noah Smith’s parents went to UCLA. Bruin fans hope that the legacy continues. You can’t coach the type of speed that Noah Smith has.
