Free Report: Whos Got Game

On June 26th on the sprawling campus grounds of Redondo Union HS, athletes from 12 local schools competed in various events ranging from the coveted QB Challenge to the Strong Man Competition, as well as the long jump and 40-yard dash. Some of the schools participating were Westchester HS, South Torrance, Inglewood, Serra, North Torrance, Mira Costa, Redondo, El Segundo, Long Beach Wilson, Palos Verdes, St Francis, West Torrance and Chadwick.
In the QB Challenge, the top competitors were Kyle Kazarian of LB Wilson, N.Torrance's Lyle Moeva--who went on to eventually win--and Redondo's Jordan Tusieseina.Tristan Patin of Serra won the 40 with 4.59. Westchester's Aaron Anthony won the long jump with a mark of 38.9. In a lifting contest, Kevin Ellison (Redondo) edged South's Nick Ekbutoni, although both had 24 repetitions of 185 lbs.

The Strong Man event was an amazing obstacle course which included weaving between pylons, flipping a 250-lb. tire, carrying pairs of 100-lb. dumbbells, tossing a medicine ball, and pulling a weighted sled. Mira Costa beat Redondo for to win that event. There were also scrimmages. It was a very well-orchestrated event, sponsored by Sportsworld and overseen by Redondo Head Coach Gene Simon. Although exhausted just from watching, we interviewed a number of the participants, who, not surprisingly, are also up and coming high school recruits.
Offensive lineman Pepa Letuli (6-4, 265, 4.9) is a senior from Torrance, Calif. He had 29-inch vertical, his bench press is 310 and his squat ss 360. A good student, he has a 2.8 GPA. Torrance Coach Todd Croce calls him a "playmaker, stopper, and a leader. Letuli has heard from Hawaii, USC, UCLA, Arizona, Oregon State and Oregon. He is undecided at this point.
Defensive lineman Alex Barry (6-6, 285) is a junior from Gardena (Calif.) Serra. He currently benches 205, squats 250, has a 27.5 vertical, and is known for "good footwork." He has heard from UCLA, USC and Miami, among other schools. He also remains open in his recruiting.
Offensive guard/defensive tackle Christopher White (6-1, 275, 5.2) is a senior also from Gardena (Calif.) Serra. His bench is 275 and he squats 305. White has heard from SDSU, Hawaii, USC and UCLA. He likes both USC and UCLA.
Defensive tackle/defensive end Nick Ekbatani is a senior from South Torrance, Calif., he runs a5.1 forty, his bench is 335 and he squats 475. He has a 3.0 and passed his SAT with a 930. Ekbatani has heard from Cal, Fresno State and Wyoming.
Offensive tackle/defensive tackle Bryce Sinclair (6-5, 330, 5.5) is a senior from Gardena (Calif.) Serra. His bench is 250, squats 350, has a 3.1 GPA and received a 940 on his SAT. He has heard from UCLA, USC, Northwestern, ASU, Arizona, and Cal. He wants to go to a Pac 10 school.
Britten Eardman, (6-0, 240) is a senior who plays free safety on the high school level but he will probably change positions on the next level. He hails from Manhattan Beach (Calif.) Mira Costa. His bench is 290, and his squat is 440. He has heard from UCLA, Cal, Arizona, Nevada and Michigan. With his 3.1 GPA and 1070 SAT score, Eardman, whose coach praised him for his footwork and technique, said he favors UCLA, likes the campus and the program, and he wants to stay local, if possible.
Defensive end/linebacker Darby Golden (6-2, 205, 4.7) from Long Beach (Calif.) Wilson benches 225,squats 405, and has a 32-inch vertical. He scored a 1030 on his SAT. He attended camps at USC and the recent B2G. He has heard from Arizona, USC and Washington, so far, and remains open.
