UCLA and three-star commit go separate ways

UCLA has decided it will not pursue three-star quarterback Eddie Printz any longer and will not honor his verbal commitment, Eddie Printz's father told BruinSportsReport.com on Wednesday.

Printz, who pledged to UCLA way back in January, forged an agreement with head coach Jim Mora and the Bruins in April that said UCLA would not recruit another quarterback as long as Printz remained committed to the program.

But apparently, all of that was erased earlier this week, when the Bruins decided to part ways with the three-star quarterback.

"I feel like I let my son down by letting him commit to UCLA," Printz's father told BSR. "I'm beside myself."

Printz had offers on the table from several other schools, including Missouri and Auburn, but both programs recently filled up their classes with two quarterbacks.

So for now, Printz and his father are just gathering information and school interests and seeing where to go from here.

"Adrian Klemm is the one that confirmed it for me, and he was like, 'If Eddie were my son, I'd get on (looking for new destinations) right now,'" Printz's father said of Klemm trying to help assuage the situation. "My son did everything right. He's got a great GPA, he's up for Player of the Year in Georgia. He has every award and accolade. I just don't think he was (Noel) Mazzone's guy. That was the problem. But I don't know for sure."

Part of the whole situation appears to be renewed interest from the Bruins in Hayden Rettig. Offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone went out to see him play last weekend, and the four-star LSU committed quarterback appears to have mutual interest.

"Everything (Eddie) has ever said is 'I can't wait to be a UCLA Bruin," Printz's father said. "I'm just devastated."
